Asahi Lina make OpenGL 3.1 Support For Apple M1/M2 Graphics On Linux. According to the latest announcement by Alyssa Rosenzweig, the Asahi Linux "edge" packages now provide experimental driver code that enables OpenGL 3.1 and OpenGL ES 3.0 support for Apple Silicon M1/M2 SoCs running on the Arch Linux-based Asahi Linux operating system. Previously, the limit for OpenGL support on Asahi Linux was version 2.1, but with the recent update, users can now enjoy the benefits of OpenGL 3.1. Additionally, OpenGL ES 3.0 support is a significant improvement over the previous OpenGL ES 2.0 version. This means that more classic games can now run smoothly on Apple hardware using Asahi Linux.

Although this experimental code has not yet obtained official conformance with the OpenGL 3.1 or OpenGL ES 3.1 specifications, it is functional for users who want to utilize it for running open-source games on Asahi Linux. The developers of Asahi Linux are actively working towards achieving OpenGL ES 3.1 support in the near future. Furthermore, the Asahi Linux development team is also making progress in developing a Vulkan API driver for Apple hardware. However, they are still "a while away" from meeting the baseline requirements of Vulkan 1.0.
